A Chair Convention: Oh Boy!

Toy Chairs

My Favorite Chairs

I spent the day yesterday with Stephen who told me his true passion is designing furniture. I probed him with many questions on his process (as I do with every experienced designer) because it is fascinating to me to learn what motivates people. As I sat in the Las Vegas airport and looked at the rows of Eames Tandem seating (that are in every airport) I wondered how many different ways are there to design a chair. Hasn’t every conceivable design already been created? I mean really, is there any “new” designs?

When I finally boarded the plane and sat in the most uncomfortable seat ever, I thought about my favorite chairs.  They are my favorite chairs because the design is timeless, everlasting and perfect.
