7 Interior Design Tips for the Minimalist Home

Guest Post by Holly Clark

As a minimalist, keeping your home simple but elegant is crucial. Minimalists like you often lead busy lives and, therefore, would not love going back into a somewhat chaotic home environment. Cluttered environments often contribute to higher stress levels. Keeping the house tidy is made easier through simple designs – and we’re here to help you begin.

||  Choose a Neutral Color

For a minimalistic home, choose one main and muted color. Using too many colors brings a feeling of chaos to any space. On the flip side, going with stark white can feel too sterile. We suggest using a muted grey, earth-tone brown or light green instead.

||  Leave Editing Options

The trick to successful minimalistic interior is to edit your furnishings and decor. You can introduce new pieces of furniture while also removing items that you feel are crowding the room. Begin this process by doing away with unnecessary items and leaving the useful ones.

||  Maintain Clean Lines

Adding pieces that make the room feel simple helps maintain clean lines in your home. Mid-century modern furniture is ideal since they have classic edges. They are also unique and sure to give your interior timeless appeal.

||  Pay Attention To Lighting

Brightening up the room is vital for perfect interior decoration. Candlesticks are a brilliant idea, as are thin window treatments. The light will help to display everything that makes the space beautiful, whether it is your paintings or indoor plants.

||  Use Different Textures in Similar Tones

Neutral tones can leave your room a bit bland. Mixing it up with beaded pillows, velvet décor, and knitted throws will give your room that much-needed comfort factor. Maintain a similar color for each piece.

||  Use Monochrome Artwork

Collect simple black and white art pieces to fill up your room. Also, you can ditch the age-old habit of hanging art on the wall. You can place this art next to the couch to give your home a unique dimension.

|| Think about Adding a Plant

Adding great plant, like a fiddle leaf fig, will bring your home to life like you’ve never seen before. Minimalistic homes are not as dull as people picture them to be. On the contrary, they are very vibrant, as everything in the space is carefully selected.

    I recently bought a condo unit, so I want it fully furnished by this summer before I move in permanently. It was a helpful tip when you told us to choose one main and muted color since using too many can bring chaos into the space if we plan to have a minimalistic home. I’ll be sure to take note of this while I look for a residential designer to hire for my condo unit soon.
