House Tour: White, Gray & Gold Remodel

We meet this Mother and Daughter duo when they were remodeling Daughter’s new home. They had a contractor and the home had been gutted down to the studs, but the draftsman the contractor had used didn’t quite bring the space plan to their satisfaction. The master bathroom didn’t have the best layout, and they had wanted a large island in the kitchen, but weren’t sure how to lay it out. Plus they had frequented all the local design showrooms and saw lots of pretty things but couldn’t decide on anything.

Stockton Interior Designer Transforms Industrial Space into Design Mecca

When I was a little girl, I never wanted to have birthday parties because I was afraid no one would come. Turns out, I had that same fear about our grand opening. However, we had a whopping 116 people show up for our ribbon cutting and grand opening.

“I just want to live here!”

This was my favorite comment received that evening. This tells me I got it right.

After many successful years at our Harding Way studio, I decided I wanted more than a Design Studio, I wanted an actual furniture boutique store. I wanted to be that “shoppe girl.”

How to Organize Your Life Through Interior Design

How to Organize Your Life Through Interior Design

I grew up with an alcoholic, drug addict father. My childhood was chaotic, to say the least. I craved a sense of order so badly that I started my first career in a profession that is steeped with rules and regulations: accounting.

I chose interior design as my second career because my childhood home(s) were always a mess and disorganized. Heck, we even lived in a tent for one year (I guess that made us homeless by today’s standards!) Because of this, I have a deep desire to give everyone a beautiful AND organized home.

I think many people hate their homes for the simple reason is that it is not organized.

You totally understand me. I know you do. With your busy career, crazy sports schedules, and trying to plan what to cook for dinner, the last thing you want to do is waste time looking for the little guy’s lunchbox in the morning.

The best way to incorporate organization into your home is to have a place for everything. This is more than having cute plastic cubbies and bins everywhere; this means making it easy to put things back where they belong.

7 Beautiful Chandelier Ideas for Your Foyer

7 Beautiful Chandelier Ideas for Your Foyer

The foyer is the catch-all place for shoes, purses, wallets, keys, and spare change. While it should be an attractive space that sets the precedent for the rest of your home, it is often a cluttered and forgotten area.

The good news? After a bit of sorting and organization, you only need to add a few new elements to make your foyer a statement piece:

 1.    Add small, narrow table or cabinet, topped with bowls for keys and change and baskets underneath for the shoes and backpacks

2.    Place a mirror above the table to allow yourself the one last look as you rush out the door (also makes a small area look larger and reflects natural light)

3.    Add wallpaper {link to last blog} with texture, prints or color

…but we aren’t quite done. The one thing I often find missing in foyers is a great statement light fixture.

Hour Tour: Lockeford Luxury Kitchen for Entertaining

As we generally do, we presented our client with two color palettes - breezy sage green called Silvermist and a moody indigo blue. It was a difficult decision, but we are so happy they opted for the Silvermist collection. It feels coastal and fits right into the large walnut orchard right out the back windows. The color palette is present in the sage green island cabinets and contrasted against the black walnut wall cabinets opposite. We continued this theme into the family room.

3 Ways White Paint Will Easily Beautify Your Home

3 Ways White Paint Will Easily Beautify Your Home

As the cooler days approach us here in California, I’ve got a craving for a good Manhattan. I like it with Crown Royal whisky and a Maraschino cherry. It is a cocktail that should be savored slowly as each sip warms your body, beginning at your forehead and culminating at the tips of your fingers and toes. As I sip, I anticipate the plump cherry marinating in the whiskey and the idea of popping it in my month creates a sense of excitement.

This is how I feel about these no-fail paint colors for white walls. I go back to them over and over in my design projects. I begin by fanning out the large paint deck, thinking I need to pick new and exciting palettes, but I always fall back on these tried and true colors.
